Like Avondale, Byrnes Down was one of the first West Ashley neighborhoods to experience revitalization on a large scale. 

In fact, many of the homes you'll find here have been renovated in some fashion. While many of the houses began as 1940’s cottages for returning World War II veterans, many of them still stand today. These brick, single-level cottages are a prevalent theme throughout this neighborhood, but that’s exactly what gives Byrnes Down it’s quaint charm. Another reason this area is so popular is because it's near Downtown Charleston and within walking or biking distance to other attractions, like the Charleston Peninsula. You're never too far from all the modern conveniences of the big city here. 

Together with Avondale, Moreland and Carolina Terrace, the Byrnes Down neighborhood and its homes are conveniently located across Savannah Highway  from Avondale and only minutes to MUSC and Roper Hospitals.  Byrnes Down is a quaint, established neighborhood. Streets to keep an eye on for homes for sale include Craven Avenue, Colleton Drive, Timmerman Avenue, Lyttleton Street, Sothel Avenue and Campbell Drive.

Public Schools for Byrnes Down are St. Andrews Elementary, West Ashley Middle School, and West Ashley High School. Magnet Scools such as Buist, James Simmons Montessori and Charleston Math and Science are also available There are private school options with The Cooper school and Porter-Gaud. Ashley Hall and Charleston Catholic are also only a few minutes away on the Charleston Peninsula
