Charleston Weather

People buying Charleston real estate may wonder what Mother Nature has in store for them. The answer really depends on the season. While some areas of the country are consistently the same weather-wise, you'll find some variation here. So if you're new to the area, and in the market for Charleston real estate, there are a few things you might want to know about our climate.

Charleston – All Four Seasons

In Charleston, you can experience winter, spring, summer and fall. Winters, however, are relatively short and mild, with occasional rain and a few snow flurries. The most accumulation you might see snow-wise is 3" or less. Since the area is a humid subtropical climate, you'll find summers can be humid and wet with almost half of the annual rainfall happening during the summer months. Spring and fall are also relatively warm and mild when compared with other areas along the eastern seaboard. Of course, since Charleston does lie along the Atlantic, it can be prone to hurricanes during the summer and early fall. The most devastating hurricane to strike Charleston in modern times was Hurricane Hugo. This category four hurricane made landfall September 21, 1989 and caused billions in damages. It's fair to say that storms of this magnitude aren't a regular occurrence, but they are a possibility. All in all, if you decide to purchase Charleston property, you'll find mostly warm, clear skies ahead of you.
